GIL KANE (April 6, 1926 - January 31, 2000) - From a young age, I learned to recognize and appreciate the great work of Gil Kane. Kane could do it all -- from superheroes to westerns to science fiction and fantasy. The high quality and sheer quantity of his artwork made him one of the greatest comic book artists of all time. Some highlights of his career include creating the look for the silver age Atom and Green Lantern (probably one of the best hero costumes ever), his pioneering Savage magazine and Blackmark graphic novels and numerous classic covers for Marvel comics. While I'm sorry I never got to meet him in person, I did get a commission shortly before he passed away (see the Flash Gordon and Dale image in the album).
