Cockrum, Dave - X-Men #121 cover recreation sketch - $400

Here's an interesting piece -- it's a convention sketch that's also a cover recreation. The previous owner commissioned this from Dave at the San Diego Con in 1983. It's basically the same as the X-Men #121 cover with the addition of Aurora and a somewhat changed version of Colossus.
This may not be Dave's greatest recreation, but it's not bad for a convention sketch (particularly one done in less than an hour for only $25!) For whatever reason, I don't think Dave was able to completely finish it as certain small portions aren't fully inked (Cyclops's force blast, part of his head and Colossus's belt.) and he didn't get around to signing it either. Unfortunately, the person who commissioned it didn't notice until after he had left the show. (It's just too bad he never had Dave finish the last little bits.)
The piece measures 11" x 14" on art paper (which is thinner than board, but thicker than standard paper) |
